Birch Vale is a small village located in the High Peak area of Derbyshire, within the Peak District National Park. While the village itself is quite rural, there are several ways to get around Birch Vale and explore the surrounding area, whether you're using public transport, walking, or cycling. Birch Vale is served by several bus routes connecting it to surrounding towns like New Mills, Glossop, and Hayfield. The main bus stops are located along the A624 and in the village centre. Bus services are generally infrequent, especially on weekends or during off-peak hours, so it’s advisable to check timetables in advance. The nearest railway station is New Mills Central, 1.2 miles away from Birch Vale. It is served by trains on the Manchester to Sheffield line and offers direct connections to Manchester and Sheffield, as well as other regional destinations. New Mills Newtown is also in reach. A 25-minute walk, either directly into New Mills or via the Sett Valley Trail as an idyllic walk.

Disappointed with the condition of this cottage. There was a strong dog smell on arrival, the house felt tired & worn, with scuffed walls & stained furnishings. The biggest concern was the flooring. The laminate was poorly fitted, with lifting panels & raised screws. With 2 children, we had to cover these with furniture for safety. Holes in the upstairs carpets & loose bathroom tiles. The bedrooms were the exception, with clean-feeling linen & attempts of modernisation. The kitchen was well equipped but packed with the owner's belongings, leaving little space for guests. Most concerning was an agency email on our 2nd night reminding us we were liable for any damage, despite the obvious pre-existing damage. We raised our concerns but received only a generic response. We’ve stayed in several properties locally & would suggest looking elsewhere. We hope the owners see this, as the property needs attention and the agency needs to do a much better job of managing and reporting its condition.
Het was een heel gezellig en rustiek verblijf. De buren waren zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam.
