We stayed as a family of four adults and a dog, there was plenty of room and it was spotless. Staithes is a perfect spot to explore the coast. Kitchen is a great space for a family meal and we had everything we needed. We were a bit disappointed we couldn't use the open fire as this was a big draw for booking the cottage and we had bought coal, logs and firefighters ahead of arriving, however the electric fire warmed the room well so we got over it. I'd definitely recommend this cottage.

Property is very old and decorated and furnished accordingly - it looks lovely inside. It was also very clean throughout and well equipped, and when the heating is on its very cosy. Steep narrow staircases in keeping with the age and type of property. The TV has no terrestrial channels, just the Samsung TV channels. It does have Netflix etc which was handy. Bookcase with some games was a nice touch. We didn't play any of them except for using the deck of cards so no idea if they were complete. Tea. coffee and sugar provided with some milk sachets. Kitchen was lovely, very cosy and a nice place to eat. Our pooch was very comfortable in his bed in the kitchen next to the radiator. Communication was excellent, we had no issue getting in. Location is amazing - right next to the high street. No parking at the property - Staithes has very little parking - but there are free short-term spaces within steps of the property where you can unload and load. We had no trouble getting a space to load and unload, people generally just stay to load/ unload and then move so spaces came free quickly. There are 2 car parks at the top of the hill out of the village, one is private and one is the council. The council one is cheaper at just over £7 a day and from 1st November to 31st March its free. We just parked and left the car the whole time we were there. Lovely walks along the Cleveland way in both directions - the cliff tops are very breezy and blow the cobwebs away! Some steep climbs but that's Staithes! The property is in need of a refurb. The bathroom in particular needs attention - the shower is totally unusable and not working properly, no pressure and the water alternates between boiling hot/ freezing cold. We just had baths instead but the plug seal is missing (someone has previously mentioned this and it doesn't seem to have been acted on) and so water does very gradually drain out while you're bathing. Some of the plugs make crackling noises when things are plugged in. In places it looks a bit tired - the tiles around the bath, the floor at one end of the living room which has been riddled with woodworm at some point and looks a bit precarious. Sofas aren't the most comfortable, quite narrow and could do with a pouffe to put your feet up. We found the bed a bit soft but that's a personal preference. It was good for a short stay of a few days but due to the issues with the bathroom, and the sofas and bed not being very comfortable we wouldn't stay for longer. The outside area is a bit tired with a few pots on it - a table and chairs would have been nice to be able to sit out.
