The apartment and location are absolutely fine.

Host and Stay made the whole experience unnecessarily negative. They took payment straight away without notice, even though it was a free cancellation booking. Worse still, instead of charging a £250 fully refundable deposit as per the booking information, they increased it to £350 with a £10 admin fee. Their customer service about this was terrible and they refused to honour the original booking info conditions. Instead they threatened to cancel our booking if we wouldn't pay the extra amount. By this point we had no time to find an alternative place. We found damaged windows in the apartment (which were filthy) and given I had zero trust in Host and Stay I felt compelled to photo every little problem. It took them two weeks to repay our £340 damage deposit.

I would NEVER book anywhere associated with Host and Stay. I booked in good faith and they did not honour the arrangement. I spent hours of time following up with no positive outcome.

Great location. Lovely social space. Clean. Plenty of towels and kitchen was reasonably well equipped.

The kitchen needs some serious TLC, dining table, and a small occasional table plus the second double bed very wobbly and in need of a screwdriver!

The flat was accessed up a couple of flights of stairs, past some smelly bins. The flat itself was large and airy with a good level of cleanliness overall, but the kitchen was a bit tired and the floor sticky. Some utensils needed to be washed before we could use them. Good range of appliances if you are there for longer.
The en suite shower was gentle in pressure and the ensuite toilet needed to be encouraged to flush! Beautiful clean towels and bedding were very welcome.
However, the outside noise at night was so loud, with a busy bar opposite along with accompanying seagulls which do not sleep!
Bring earplugs or perhaps they should be provided?
It felt over priced for the location and the quality of the surrounding area.

Good shower, central location, large apartment

Entrance dingy, damp, and fire exit blocked by bins. Numerous issues with flat such as en suite shower uncontrollable, lights not working, paint peeling, kick boards fall off when dishwasher opened. I could go on ....Host and Stay manage the apartment but rarely answer their phone. Complaint ongoing. Don't book!

Nice big apartment. All a bit dated but perfectly ok with everything working if pretty old. Restaurants nearby are great and the high street is a short walk. Berwick is a great place. Apartment was clean - more or less.

We booked late and this was available. The building is quite run down. In the common stairwell there is an overpowering smell of damp when you walk in. No welcome pack is provided - tea, coffee, milk etc. What is there is old - couple of tea bags, congealed powdered coffee etc, obviously not refilled in ages. That shows a lack of interest in the customer. Nearest decent convenience store is a long way off. There is a discount store opposite but it’s not very good. The windows have not been cleaned in years and one of them is very cracked and has been taped rather than repaired. Shower door doesn’t open properly, coat hooks not fixed to the wall properly etc. I found a mouldy orange in a wardrobe under a blanket. Bearing in mind there is £95 cleaning fee and a £45 admin fee and you’re have your arm twisted to pay £25 to waive the damage deposit ( or you have £250 taken off your credit card which gets returned less £10) I think the managing agent is not really earning its money and the owner needs to spend some money on repairs and a refresh rather than letting it gradually run down hoping nobody will notice. It’s a pity really.
